May 12th, 2015

NCI recently gained local press coverage with an article written by Laura Knowlson of the York Press.

Laura wrote “Within Harrogate’s list of top performing SMEs is insurance provider NCI, which last year welcomed its 100th employee as pre-tax profits surpassed the million pound mark, growing from £974,000 to £1.25 million. Founded in 2000 by Neil Richards-Smith and Craig Duwell, NCI has grown over the past fourteen years expanding from breakdown cover to motor insurance and most recently to pet insurance.

In 2012 the business opened its new 2,500 sq ft head office in Clarendon House, Harrogate.”

Neil Richards-Smith, co-founder of NCI Insurance, talks about the benefits of the Apprentice scheme.

“NCI has a great belief in developing its workforce for mutual benefit. We want to give our colleagues an opportunity to develop their skills and at the same time use those skills daily to the advantage of NCI and also for the benefit of our customers. The flexibility of modern apprenticeships has meant we can pick appropriate modules to complement the training we do in-house and really push on quality of learning which then cascades down to other colleagues through knowledge transfer, all to the benefit of our customers. Its not like the old days of handing the apprentice a broom and a pair of brown overalls, this is a system every business can tap into for new and existing colleagues depending on the needs of the business. As a test we put all our managers through management apprenticeship and they all gained a nationally recognised qualification, it worked so well that we have now extended the program with a further ten apprentices. We wish them well and look forward to seeing how that new knowledge will be used at NCI”

NCI acquires AXA’s book of pet insurance

NCI Vehicle Rescue plc, the multi-faceted insurance provider,  acquired a book of pet business from AXA Insurance for an undisclosed sum. In line with the stated strategy of acquiring complementary revenue streams to augment the Group’s organic growth, the book of business being acquired provides supplies pet insurance cover for cats and dogs and should bring approximately 10,000 new clients to NCI’s already established pet insurance business. NCI’s current pet insurance book has been built under a number of brands and continues to be an important area of growth for the company. As per the strategy, The NCI board continues to investigate other opportunities to further enhance their standing in the insurance arena. Neil Richards-Smith, Managing Director and co-founder said: “This is an enormously exciting deal for NCI. We’re confident that we have the level of expertise and high standards of service and policies to continue to provide the same level of service that customers would expect. We have a strong position in the market with our current schemes and this deal further cements our pet insurance proposition. We see pet insurance as an expanding market with opportunities for growth. Our strengths in this market are our strong financial controls and diligence in looking after our schemes carefully and ensuring our clients get the personal service and cover they need. This acquisition is in line with our stated growth strategy and further highlights our commitment to build our business through sustainable insurance offerings. Although organic growth continues to be a vital component, acquiring additional customers through acquisitions is a key part of our overall medium and long term plan.”
